(The English Department)
Do you think you’re going to write this VIVUM? (Okay
well maybe you are a little bit), but
that is NOT what this department is all about.
Drop your previous impressions on the VIVUM English
department because this year we’re bringing our original ‘scribbles’ to you.
Introducing entirely new events inclusive of those
that are inter-departmental with departments as diverse as Art, Drama and even
Business,
This year’s English Department clearly depicts one of VIVUM13’s goals;
to be un-paralleled.
So when you pack your lucky pen, I’d advise you to pack some writing skills,
rapping skills, spelling skills and whatever else you think is creative about
you because no other English department ANYWHERE resembles this one.

THE JUST A MINUTE DEBATE
Number of participants:
It’s an individual event, but we’ll accept 2 per school.
Time allotted:
1 minute per person (so total time depends on number of participants)
Rules:
The participant will be given a bowl from which they will pick a topic at random, they will then be given one minute to talk about the given topic. We will judge you on your ability to speak on the topic in the given time.
THE SPELLING ZEE
Number of participants:
2 or 3 people per school (It’s an individual event though)
Time allotted:
30-45 minutes
Rules:
There will be three rounds to this event:
Round 1: The Written Round
10 words will be given to all participants to write down. The top 10 (this number depends on how many people participate) people will qualify for the next round.
Round 2: The Elimination round
Each participant will be given two words to spell and those that are unable to spell both words correctly will be disqualified.
Round 3: The Showdown
The participants will be put up against each other and will be expected to spell the word after hitting the buzzer. In the case of a tie, the participant maybe asked to state synonyms under given conditions.
For every round, the pronunciation, meaning as well as usage of the word in a sentence will be given if requested.
